Network of Processing Systems

This diagram is taken from The Continuum of Literacy Learning by Fountas and Pinnell.

Reading is a complex process.  It involves a network a strategic actions that take place as a reader is thinking within the text, beyond the text and about the text.  Although each action is listed in its own section of the wheel, these actions take place simultaneously and seamlessly in the head of a reader.

The following pages of this blog highlight each of the specific strategic actions with links to minilesson ideas, anchor charts, and goals for each grade level according to the Fountas and Pinnell Continuum of Literacy Learning.
